A dog has been attacked by a man with a golf club in what police have described as a “distressing and unprovoked act of violence”.
The incident happened at about 13:00 GMT on Saturday 8 November at Lickey Hills Country Park and Visitor Centre in Rednal.
A West Mercia Police spokesperson said “a man hit the dog with a golf club he was carrying”.
They added the dog, Teddy,suffered “swelling to the face and dislodged teeth” and the force was now keen to speak with anyone who may have been in the area at the time.
‘Owner’s baby’
Investigating officer PC Fiona Bonehill said Teddy had suffered a “nasty ear injury” which he was “still bleeding from”.
“He’s on a recovery path, but he’s literally going to the vets every day,” she said, adding the vets’ bills were already in excess of £2,500.
“Luckily, the charity PDSA have supported [the owner] and the dog is covered through insurance. But nonetheless, it’s still traumatic. It’s like the owner’s baby, as she described it to me.”
